The Manciple £109.50

The Manciple

All caterers might follow his example

In buying victuals; he was never rash

Whether he bought on credit or paid cash

He used to watch the market most precisely

And got in first, and so he he did quite nicely.

The Manciple is another of Chaucer’s characters who fits into the 21st century with no problem.   His life-style we hope is reflected in his costume with its terracotta decorated bands around the cuffs and patterned tunic fabric, plus his rather splendid variation on a Tam’o shanter hat.

Once more the  interest in money is made clear by the important leather pouch he carries so proudly.
